Why ADSL
ADSL or Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line converts your regular
phone into a high-speed digital link. With ADSL your Internet
connection is "always on", you have unlimited access to
the Internet and you benefit from fast downloading speeds. In
addition with one line you can be connected to both your phone and
the Internet.
SLT
has commenced offering ADSL facilities in some parts of Colombo
since April 2002. It intends to expand its coverage during the year
to other areas of Colombo and its suburbs. Speeds offered by SLT are
2 Mbit/s download and 512 Kbit/s upload, or 512 Kbit/s download and
128 Kbit/s upload with dynamic IP.

What
is ADSL ?
ADSL stands for Asymmetric Digital
Subscriber Line, where a normal telephone line becomes a high speed
digital link. It is called asymmetric because it allows different
speeds for downloading and uploading for optimized performance. ( Downloading
speed can be more than 10 times the normal downloading speed of an
Analog modem).
What is remarkable is its simplicity. It uses regular copper wires
with special devices at both the switch box end and at the
customer's end transforming a regular copper cable into a high
bandwidth internet solution. TOP
